Living Here

If you are looking for a sophisticated Mid Century in a prime location, we've got you covered. And, let's make that cover extra special with wood vaulted ceilings! This home's smart architecture allows the roof to seemingly float above roofline windows. A circular floor plan and balanced proportions create excellent flow throughout. Clerestory windows and glass sliders enhance the natural lighting while blurring the lines between the indoor-outdoor spaces with mid-century ease. The home has been meticulously cared for and the pride of ownership shows both in the beauty of the residence and in the reports.

We can't begin to talk about the yard without mentioning the majestic maple that provides dappled light to the driveway and front walk. The gentle hillside grants elevation from the street, enhancing privacy to the front rooms. Low maintenance landscaping gives you time to enjoy life on the patio, where dinners are sheltered by house and hillside from the cool ocean breeze. The sunny side yard offers a raised planting bed, a prolific pear tree, and private space to lounge.

The one-level home and cul de sac street offer ease of living appreciated by the very young (as evidenced by neighborhood toddlers who learn to bicycle here).  The young-at-heart appreciate the ability to pull into the airy garage with its entrance directly into the on-level dwelling.

Neighborhood

Located on one of the best streets in all of Kensington, this house enjoys the benefits of the quiet cul-de-sac and is just blocks from a top public elementary school and our favorite bay area park, Kensington Park. Thanks to its proximity to the University of California, Berkeley campus, Kensington may boast the largest number of Nobel Prize winners of any community in the world. But one look at this neighborhood of large homes in the hilly streets above Berkeley, its commanding views of the Bay Area, and sunny terraced yards will explain why this community is one of the most sought after in the East Bay. Future Nobel laureates are nurtured at Kensington’s highly rated Hilltop Elementary School, perched above a nicely landscaped public park featuring tennis courts, paved walkways, running track, play structures, and more. What makes this our favorite park are its stunning views looking straight out to the Golden Gate Bridge.

At the end of the cul-de-sac, a pathway leads down to Arlington Avenue and toward the town’s business core clustered around a friendly shopping strip on Arlington Avenue, which includes Young’s Market, Arlington Wine and Spirits, Inn Kensington and Raxakoul Coffee and Cheese to name a few. Kensington is served by its own police and fire departments, also located on Arlington Avenue. A second district around Colusa Circle includes Semifreddi’s Bakery and the Kensington Circus Pub. This English-style pub attracts many families with small children with a coveted “play corner,” and provides an opportunity to hear live music. The circle hosts a vibrant weekly Farmer’s Market with live music and established food trucks.

Along the city’s eastern crest, Tilden Park is a treasure trove of activities for adults and kids alike. Year-round you can enjoy the Animal Farm and Environmental Education Center, the Botanic Gardens, and hiking and biking. All summer you can enjoy Lake Anza and the merry-go-round and steam trains. During the rainy winter months, the park features its own waterfall below the naturally landscaped swimming hole at Lake Anza.
